Rwanda Diplomatic mission in the Sudan is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a communication officer. He / She will be responsible for promoting Rwandan values and reputation through press work, strategic campaigns (including digital) and staging events.He / she will play a key role in ensuring embassy communications are both influential and informative.
Managing all Embassy digital channels (website, Facebook and Twitter), copy writing, coordinating communication and policy materials, compiling newsletters and bulletins, assist with research, draft press releases, website articles, prepare briefings and speeches if required.
Select, translate, proof-read, draft and publish communications on Embassy website and social media and provide top-class political and communications advice to the Ambassador.
Develop and implement Communications Plan, organize and brief for; public diplomacy events and campaigns, including visits, press conferences and interviews, looking for creative ways to communicate Rwanda priorities and values and acting as interpreter during interviews.
Monitor the media and support the mission with summaries and analysis of reporting on political events, focusing particularly on Rwanda policy priority areas.
Execute and coordinate events at the Embassy, Ambassador’s Residence, and external locations that support Rwanda foreign policy and security objectives.
Maintain and develop a network of key local Arabic and English-language Journalists and liaise with the Communications Team of Ministry of foreign affairs in Kigali.
Provide evaluation through monthly reports.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
A university degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communication, or other related areas.
Confidence in writing English and Arabic languages, and ability to communicate effectively on social media in either language.
A clear understanding of the traditional and social media scene, dealing with journalists, having a strong grasp of politics and show a high level of personal drive to generate and implement ideas without close supervision.
Experience and strong interest in public affairs/ relations, event management or journalism, managing websites and social media. Photography and video production would be an advantage.
Excellent organizational and self-management skills in order to be able to work to tight deadlines and to respond flexibly and creatively to changing priorities and work outside office hours if required.
Knowledge of web editing, experience of creating visual content, info-graphics and videos.
Interest in the Rwanda, the Rwanda’s foreign policy, current domestic and international affairs and the Rwandan press and digital media landscape.
Be willing to travel for work purposes, if required.
